Abstract: This project aims to synthesize inorganic complexes that mimic intermediates in monooxygenation reactions. The oxygenated complexes are stabilized through H-bonds in the second co-ordination sphere of Co atoms which are bound to ligands that form hydrophobic and H-bonding pockets. The syntheses of three ligands and two Co complexes are reported. Ligand 1 is 8-aminoquinoline based, Ligand 2 is N,N dimethylethylenediamine based, and Ligand 3 is a two armed ligand based on 1,2 diaminobenzene. Complexes 1 and 2 are based on Ligands 2 and 1 respectively. Only Complex 1 was obtained in crystal form. All products are characterized and unusual features are highlighted with an eye to further work on this project.
