Abstract: We report the synthesis of two precursors to a pentadentate ligand. We propose that this molecule will be effective at coordinating to a metal through five nitrogen coordination sites. In addition, the presence of a guanidinyl functional group allows for hydrogen bonding to O2. Steric bulk from the numerous rings in the ligand allows for only the coordination of small molecules to the metal center. The synthesis of a new guanidinyl functional group is reported below.
