Abstract: This project proposes to study the complexation of metal ions by a ligand containing an N-substituted urea group. A method for data analysis will be presented which can be used to obtain quantitative descriptions of ligand, and ligand-metal systems. Through comparison of titration data of the ligand with data from titrations of the ligand in the presence of various metal ions, insight can be gained about the metal-binding ability of the ligand. It will also make it possible to determine the acid dissociation constants of the functional groups in some weakly acidic ligands, as well as the formation constants for the multidentate metal complex.
