Abstract: The coordination environment of metal-imprinted cobalt and iron [MIIH31(OH)]2-, [MIIIH31(OH)]1-, [MII(H2LtBu)2]2- and [MIII(H2LtBu)(O2)]2- complexes was investigated by X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS). Bond distances determined by EXAFS analysis of [Co2 III(H2LtBu)(O2)]2- are within 1.004% of the crystallographic bond distances and first sphere EXAFS results confirm the identity of the metal-ligand coordination. Examination of the XANES spectrum for this system further supports the 4-coordinate square planar geometry that has been confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Structural characterization of [Fe2 III(H2LtBu)(O2)]2- was furthermore inconclusive and does not currently support the square planar coordination site geometry of the analogous [Co2 III(H2LtBu)(O2)]2- system.
