Abstract
In this paper, I investigate the problem of generating holograms with computers. Holograms are developing 3D display technology, superior to modern stereoscopic systems. After an introduction to the field, I survey some existing methods (Ping Pong, Coherent Ray Tracing, Diffraction Specific). Next, I examine two analytical algorithms in closer detail. Finally, I consider building on the analytical methods to make vector based holograms, and examine their possible merit. Upon examining a theoretical algorithm, I conclude that without further advances in vector displays, a vector hologram would be impractical.
