This paper examines the role of Richard Nixon as environmental actor in the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1970. By compromising previous American environmental thought of conservation with and Republican values of economic production, he was able to pass a reorganization of federal government and
thus establish the EPA. By understanding the economic value of environment as the
provider of resources and the base for materiality, the EPA represented the integration of
American ecology with its economy and culture. |
