dc.description.abstract The synthesis of the novel tripodal nitrogen ligand N1,N2,N3-tris(2- (imidazolidin-2-ylideneamino)ethyl)amine (MIZ3tren) is reported. A synthetic technique based on literature precedent was used. However, the exact conditions reported in the literature did not work for this particular synthesis. An ordered series of optimization reactions were conducted that eventually led to the appropriate reaction conditions. MIZ3tren was obtained in pure form but unknown yield. The purified ligand was reacted with cobalt acetate tetrahydrate to give the coordination complex [Co2+MIZ3tren(OAc-)]OAc-. en
