dc.description.abstract The work that follows was inspired by linguistic fieldwork I conducted in northern Paraguay with the Ishir/Chamacoco people. ... In this work I will look past the facile explanation that reduces belief to power, and into the social heart of belief. This work is an attempt to explain what belief is, how it happens, and what it makes us do.
