Abstract: One of the main themes in education today is the concept of accountability, and this focus stemmed from an attempt to regain the educational status of this country back to its reigning position as one of the learning centers of the world. So, educational efforts and reform has been under fire for decades. The Charter School Movement is one that is taking the country by storm. Though it is still very early in its stages, it is beginning a movement to change the face of education. The reason it is has taken its form so rapidly in the past decade is because of its ability to create the accountability that has been sought after for decades. Charter schools make it easier to be held responsible for the learning needs of children in this country. It does a little more than people bargain for in that it not only makes teachers and educational administrators accountable for what the child learns, but it makes parents, legislators, officials, and the public accountable for how that child's learn by causing them to play a role in a child's education as well. Charter schools causes America to enact its ideals of democracy and opportunity by giving each stakeholder the opportunity to help all children learn in this country.
