Title: Demystifying Difference: Identity, Power, and Liberation in the Essays of Audre Lorde
Author: Storer, Emily
Advisor: Hucks, Tracey E.
Department: Haverford College. Independent College Programs
Type: Thesis (B.A.)
Issue Date: 2009
Abstract: In this thesis, I will explore how Lorde wrote about difference from two perspectives: differences within an individual, and differences within or between communities of people. I will examine Lorde’s understanding of how differences have previously been abused to the detriment of individuals and communities, as well as how she sees difference can be transformed into a positive and creative social force.
