Abstract
The following study tried to find an uncertainty response in the rat, which would indicate uncertainty monitoring. Our procedure involved giving the rat a spatial discrimination and a mechanism (ramp) for an uncertain response. In the first experiment, the uncertainty response lead to information about the spatial discrimination and consequently, reward. This did not motivate the rats to make the response. In the second experiment, the uncertain response only lead to a reward. Although we do not have data to confirm the uncertainty response, the rat's behavior suggest uncertainty monitoring. Further testing will be necessary to know for sure.
