Abstract
Abnormalities in circadian rhythms have been observed in clinical depressives. The cyclic rhythms of negative affect during the female menstrual cycle produce both physiological and psychological abnormalities that are correlated to depressive symptoms. To study the etiology of premenstrual affective disorders, mood, menstrual cycle, sleep patterns, and environmental demands were measured daily in healthy, menstruating women and analyzed in terms of the various proposed hypothetical menstrual stress models.
