Abstract
This week on War News Radio, we mark this year’s Memorial Day with some of our favorite pieces about the men and women who serve in the U.S. military. First, we head to Philadelphia for the unveiling of a new memorial to local service members who have died while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Elizabeth Threlkeld and Jess Engebretson report. Read the transcript here. Then, the mother of a young Iraq war veteran battling Post Traumatic Stress Disorder speaks about her son’s challenges readjusting to life in the US. Elise Garrity reports. And, who is really bearing the burden of the war? We hear from one American whose answer to this question led him to enlist. Wren Elhai reports. Finally, we learn about the US National Guard’s Flat Soldier program. For children whose parents are overseas, a cardboard cutout can’t fill the void. But some say it helps. Peter Holm reports.
