Abstract
This thesis investigates the notion of egalitarianism or economic equality as a matter of justice through the works of John Rawls and G.A. Cohen. It considers the solution of redistribution of wealth through charity in order to reduce global suffering, as is argued by Peter Singer. Then, by way of Andrew Sayer's work, it critiques charity as the solution to the emotional and psychological ramifications of economic inequality and class difference, which are exacerbated rather than relieved through charity.
